Viewing HEIF/HEIC Images

Cardinal Photos allows you to view your .heic images on any device, even ones that don't have native support for the format.

Once your .heic files have been indexed and the photo_variations job has completed, your Home Server will be able to use the variation whenever you want to see the HEIC image on a device that doesn't support the format.

If you try to view a HEIC image on an unsupported device and the Home Server does not have a variation, then it will convert the HEIC image to a JPEG on the fly. This process is slow, so variations are a necessary optimization for any library with lots of HEIC images.
